miércoles, junio 02, 2004 I am back in the USA. I bought a cool full sized van for 10 grand. I start work in the next couple days. Let`s hope the money starts rolling in. posted by Eric | 6/2/2004 10:49:59 PM | commentsjueves, mayo 20, 2004 Hola lunes, abril 26, 2004 This weekend was really fun! On Thursday after 8 hours of class I went down to el pescadito to ask someone something and saw a friend of my from Holland named Evelyn. She said they were going to Manuel Antonio the next day and that I should come. I supposed to meet them at the bus stop at 200. I got there and the bus was full and the next one was an indirect which means they stop constantly and it is really a bad trip. There was another guy named Steve who didn`t have a ticket either. I really wanted to go so I decided to make the trip into a little bit of an adventure. We screw buses, we don`t need no stinking buses!! The other 5 people with tickets got on the bus and Steve and I started walking down the street. We checked some car rental places and rented a small SUV. BY small I mean pretty small, like a raised up car with 4 wheel drive. I had never driven down here and it is awesome. It is some much faster and you have a lot more freedom. We got to the beach and found the other people. They had let some crack head talk them into staying and this really really crappy place. Down here there are a lot of people, many crack heads or drunks, who get paid to bring people to hotels. So they find you at the bus stop and talk you in to letting them take you somewhere. As we where driving to the -hotel-with 7 people packed into our car we decided to look for a place a little better. I stopped in this place that was really nice with a pool on the second floor and a restaurant only to find out the rooms where 80 dollars apiece. Well after arguing and I think more annoying the lady I got her to give us 2 rooms for 100 bucks. Pretty good deal. That was 14 dollars a person. Some of the other people wanted to got the casino and betting a little bit isn`t too bad. I hadn`t been to a casino in over a year. Well I ended up turning 20 dollars into 300!! That made the car rental and hotel a bit cheaper! The next day I went for a hike in a national park. All the beaches were beautiful and we hiked up on a bluff with a cool view. My flip flops broke and I had to climb bare-foot the whole way. Coming down hurt a lot more that coming up. I should of taken more pictures but oh well. I know never want to go anywhere in bus, having a car is really cool!! It was a fun weekend and met some cool people! posted by Eric | 4/26/2004 02:42:11 PM | commentsdomingo, abril 18, 2004 I went to bocas del toro in panama. It was pretty cool. I am now an open water diver. The classes were cool and scuba diving is amazing! It is hard to describe. You are in a completely different world. I saw some cool fish, coral, jelly fish, and a sunken ferry plus all kinds of weird creatures. Crossing the Panamanian border was interesting. Customs is on the honor system. There is a little office before you get to this huge bridge to check out of costa rica and then you walk over this scarcy looking bridge with crocodiles swimming underneath. When you get to the other side there was this tiny office that was hard to miss to check into panama with this big fat crazy caribean black lady stamping stuff. There are no fences, signs of what to do, police, army or anything. Basically if you feel like going through customs, go ahead, and if not, well now that is just ok too, suit yourself. The way back from panama sucked. A maid stole 15 dollars from me, then the guy in the boat stole my discman and i didn`t notice until i was in costa rica and when i go to the bus station in san jose there was some guy going nuts saying I scratched his car. This is just one of the many ways people try to screw americans over domingo, marzo 28, 2004 I moved today. I am living with the family I lived with the first time I came down here. I really like the house, my room, my bed and the backyard. She is an awesome cook too!! This time around they have put cable internet in which rocks. School is going ok I guess. Classes aren`t too bad, there is just a lot of bullshit busy work and I never know what to do, which is frustrating. It isn`t because of the spanish either, no one knows what is going on. They also have no text books here. The teacher gives the reading for the next week to a student and that student has to tell everyone in what copyshop they are going to leave it and then it is up to you to go find it. Well I guess it is better than paying 500 for books though. I had to do a presentation the other day and that was interesting as I had to speak in front of 40 people from here in spanish. I went to this awesome concert last night. The group was called La Ley which means a lot for you people as I assume you celebrate their entire collection. Any way it rocked and it rolled!! The thing I am most excited about is going to panama!!! I leave this coming saturday. I am going to some islands called BOCAS DEL TORO. I have reservations to get my first level of scuba diving certification. The dives are supposed to be awesome!! Plus there is a ton of stuff to do. The suba diving is 200 bucks for 3 days of classes and dives, equipment, and lunch. I think that is a great deal but I am not sure. I am going with a girl from england, and my 2 tica sisters Hazel and Lucrecia. Well that is all for now folks. posted by Eric | 3/28/2004 04:27:41 PM | commentsmartes, marzo 09, 2004 Well I am in Costa Rica. The plane ride was fine. 2 flights of about 2.5 hours so not too bad at all. I got to my apartment and no one was there so I went to my old teachers house and she was home luckily. It was funny she acted like it was completely normal for me to just show up. She just open the door said hello, didn`t mention all of the luggage I had in my hands, ask me if i wanted some coffee and started talking about stuff. Eventually I got into my apartment and my old -tica sister- dropped my new laptop. I was a little ticked as it cost quite a bit of money and after consulting chris house I was informed that I was pretty much screwed because i was way done here and it needed to be serviced. I called dell and found out that before they could even tell me what they could do, I had to get the warranty changed so it took awhile to get that figured out and it was the weekend so I couldn`t do anything until monday. On monday I called them back and they said my mail-in warranty didn`t count down here!!! Well if i can knock on someone`s door and sell them a 1500 vacuum I should be able to get some help out of these people right? Well to sum it up 2 days later a man knocked on my door with a new LCD screen and put it in totally free!!! Dell has the best customer service in the world!!! When I got to my apartment it was pretty much empty no funiture or anything. I was kinda surprised because it was supposed to be completely furnished. Apparently they thought I was going to stay for like 3 or 4 years and were going to buy all the furniture, stove and frig with the money they were planning on recieving from the rent. So they started ordering all this stuff and I finally told them that I wasn`t planning on staying that long so they cancel all the orders. I have no frig or stove or couch or anything. It kinda sucks but oh well. I am planning on moving because not having a frig is horrible. I can`t keep any food so i have to eat out all the time which by yourself sucks anyway and it is expensive. They do make me breakfast and do all the laundry and everything though. Now we come to school. It sucks!!!!!! Classes here are 4 hours long one day a week. Them being in spanish makes me have to think all that much harder too!! For the first class I was really nervous. They were doing construction outside and i couldn`t hear anything!! There is a girl named amy from england in 2 of my classes and i am glad she is around. I am taking educacion classes and I have never taken one before. It is almost like a philosphy class. Nothing is real, it is just stupid theories and common sense. And as Amy says with her charming english accent......-I am angry she just sits up there and goes on and on about making classes interesting and she doesn`t fucking bother for us!!!- Ha!! I would have to agree Amy. Well I was taking 6 classes which is a lot. I had 3 on thursday so those of you who are good at math have already figured out that that is 12 hours of class in one day. well I dropped 2 classes so now it is pretty comfortable with 4. My birthday was sunday and i just sat around all day but went out with some people at night for a little bit so it wasn`t too bad. I started exercising again and that feels good. I am going to the beach this weekend and I am looking forward to that!! I am going to try and put a video of the aparment up and some pics. That is all for now. Toodaloo!!! posted by Eric | 3/9/2004 11:57:41 AM | commentsdomingo, febrero 22, 2004 Well I am going back to Costa Rica at 630 on wensday morning. I am pretty pumped to go actually!!!! My apartment is pretty sweet. I will put pictures of it up cuanto antes. It is really nice and comes with cable internet and a maid that cleans, cooks , and does laundry!!! Hopefully my classes aren`t too hard. I have a ton of plans to go places down there it is going to be awesome!! A couple people say they may come visit me. We`ll see how many actually make it down. Well does anyone actually read this anywho? Look for pictures of me in tropical paradise!!! See ya`ll!!!!!! posted by Eric | 2/22/2004 09:35:51 AM | commentslunes, enero 05, 2004 Well things are going pretty good. I just bought a laptop for 838 from dell. I like it and it is everything i need. I spent so much money on my desktop for stuff i never used i was smart this time. All I do is download music and go on the internet and this one works great for that. I do miss that dial in the middle of the mouse that scrolls down a page. Kirby is going great. I owed my dad about 4600 when I started working there and now i have 900 saved in the bank that is mine. Including all the money i spent it looks like i made a lot of money. It is a great business and I think I am going to make a career out of it. It is not some get rich quick scheme. It is a company that has been in business for 90 years that requires you to do stressful hard work about 100 hours a week for a little over a year and then you get you own business where other people work 100 hours a week making you money. The good thing is that I love and believe in the product and think everyone should have one. I am going back to Costa Rica feb 25. I don`t know how long i will stay because i want to get going with kirby but who knows. I fell asleep at 1030 on new years. Joey and Ian came over the other night. I had not seen Ian in over a year. Crazy huh? I also unbunked our beds the other day so I can finally say as a 19 year old man that i no longer sleep in bunk beds. Other good news..that last thing in spanish was perfectly written...that surprised me, maybe i did learn something down there. posted by Eric | 1/5/2004 10:41:37 AM | commentsdomingo, noviembre 23, 2003 Como he dicho, fuimos a Guatemala principalmente para ver y participar en las celebraciones de Antigua. Well the job is going ok. I work all day everyday. And by all day I mean I leave my house at 830 and get back at midnight sometimes. I did make over 1000 dollars the first week but then i had a cancelation so I ended up makng 800. This week was really crappy and made about 250 bucks because someone else cancel which took my bonus away. I don´t know if Jeff´s brother did the same thing but it wouldn´t suprise me. It is really easy to make no money but if you work you can make a lot. posted by Eric | 11/9/2003 01:20:06 PM | commentsdomingo, octubre 26, 2003 Well I start my job tomorrow. I am selling Kirby vaccums. I had training for 8 hours yesterday and a while on friday. I am excited to start. I actually sold one to my parents today which is pretty cool. My basic job is showing up at 9 am and doing stuff at the office for awhile and then going to 3 appointments everyday. Everyone I will see and try to sell to, has already showed enough interest in buying it to have me come to there house and demo it. They say the worst you do when you start is selling 1 in 6 or 1 in 5 and you get up to about 1 in 3 on average. How much does it pay you ask? Well I get 350 dollars for every one I sell until I sell 12 and then I get 420. I also get bonuses for having them pay in cash or with a credit card. I also get a bonus for showing up on time 5 days a week and selling a minimum number of vacuums. The bonus depends on how many you sell. Still better if I sell 15 within the month or november or within the month of december I win a all expenses paid trip to cancun which is the company trip. Sounds pretty good huh? Well the only catches are that it is sales and I have handle being rejected more times than selling and i have work a lot of hours and almost everyday of the week. Luckily all the hard work you do pays off and I won´t be working in the cold in some crappy 8 dollar an hour job where i get about 30 hours a week. There is some big earning potenial in fromt of me. I will definetly let you know what kind of money i start bringing in. posted by Eric | 10/26/2003 09:30:04 PM | commentsviernes, octubre 17, 2003 I forget more and more spansih everyday. This last little section is complete crap. although I write like crap in english so I shouldn´t be surprised. I lost the my job with the mason because there wasn´t enough work. I just got hired at Shy Enterprises. I had to lie to get the job saying things like I was going into business in school and that I was going to work there for over a year but really they aren´t lies yet, I just really hope they turn out to be. Well I was super excited to get the job because I get paid a salary instead of an hourly wage plus incentives. I get 2 grand a month plus bonuses for projects or sales or something. I will be wearing a tie to work. I imagine I will start drinking coffee and having -another rough day at the office- and my life will turn into the movie office space. I am going to cedar point on sunday which i am super pumped for. I will know the result of my admissions exam 2 weeks from monday. Well I arrived without any problems. I would have to say I miss Costa Rica and my family there quite a bit. I already got a job which is go because it is my third day back. I am working for a mason and he is a pretty nice guy. My back sure hurts though. I must of bent over 500 times. I haven´t gotten an oppotunity to watch TV since I have been back. I have been really busy. Besides just the stuff I had to do after being gone so long I went and saw Tim and better yet I ate dinner with a very nice girl. Well I think i am going to go watch harry potter 2. I took my admissions exam and I am pretty confident I did well but I won't know until november 3. I am also looking for work when I get back so if anyone knows of any let me know. posted by Eric | 8/13/2003 05:43:47 PM | commentsjueves, julio 31, 2003 Well the job didn't work out. It wasn't what I was looking for. I ate a raw turtle egg yesterday. It was gooey. I also went to the beach with my family. It was pretty cool although there was nothing to be seen , it was rather deserted. Things in general are the pretty much the same. August 9 is the big test and i am studying a lot for that. I also recomend a book called El Peregrino by Paulo Caulo or something like that. I am sure it is written in english too....it is written in 56 languages.....quite a good read. posted by Eric | 7/31/2003 01:56:30 PM | commentsdomingo, julio 20, 2003 Well tomorrow at 7 in the morning I have to call Lena for a job interview. If I get the job I will be working in an off-shore betting company making a minimum 2000 dollars a month and seeing how the job market sucks in the states and especially in the winter I might just stay here a little longer. . Who the heck knows what tomorrow will bring. Wish me luck . posted by Eric | 7/20/2003 01:48:32 PM | comments |
